What's New
Regarding oil and gas, the local TSTC (Texas State Technical College) campus is looking at getting involved in the industry by providing short-term and long-term training. Representatives with the college are expected to attend the November SEED meeting--set for November 12--to further discuss the matter.
Denise Shavandy, a Texas State Technical College culinary institute chef instructor in Abilene, recently dished up a special Texas style dish at the State Fair in Dallas, which runs through Oct. 21. Shavandy was featured in the Celebrity Kitchen where she cooked in a full kitchen, and starred in a one-hour demonstration, followed by a tasting of her Dr Pepper Braised Pork Belly with Jicama Apple Slaw & Chipotle Mayo in a taco.
Texas State Technical College West Texas received an award from The Hispanic Business Council and Abilene Chamber of Commerce for five years of building bridges. Kim Porter and Nick Alvarado accepted the award from Business Mercado Co-Chairs David Hernandez and Jesse Cardenas.
Texas State Technical College West Texas has been named to the coveted Military Friendly Schools list for the third straight year.
The 2013 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America's military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.
